Zamzam Ibrahim, Vice President of European students Union, a co-founder of Students Organising for Sustainability, Vice Chair Muslim Leadership foundation and the former National President of the National Union of Students, UK. She’s led work on tackling societal injustices, leading campaigns from; climate justice, tackling racial injustice to abolishing the Prevent Duty.

Zamzam has been a leading voice on tackling climate injustice more specifically in the education system, diverting away from a Eurocentric lens in which the climate crisis is currently portrayed in.

When the foundations of our systems are crumbling then real change can never truly be implemented by tinkering with the edges. We need to recognise that real change will require us to build new just and sustainable systems from scratch. Brick by Brick, we must learn to build each other up and we cannot be afraid of change.

Light Bulb moment or idea is a spark of inspiration often to do something innovative. We live in a world more tech savvy than ever before yet 940 million people do not have access to electricity globally. Whilst one side of the world develops self driving cars the otherside lacks access to light, heat, and clean water. Innovation is brilliant when it makes our world better, resilient but more importantly when it improves the lives of people for the better.

The saying ‘Time will tell’ comes to mind. How often we forget the role we play influencing the future. We watch time tick by, wondering why nothing ever changed. But like a clock tells you the time NOW, making our planet a just and sustainable requires action NOW.

This takes me to a world of ‘what if’, I’d like to imagine an alternative reality. In a world where people travel freely across lands, business operates for people not profit, and when your faith, race, or sexual orientation doesn’t define you.

The internet has become the most powerful organising tool, it has turned our world into a global village. It allows us to connect to countries on the other side of the world that once seemed outreach, within seconds. Young school students formed the biggest alliance and mass mobilised across the globe. Anyone with a connection and passion can inspire a generation.
